The content of this information sheet is linked to the big or ‘vertical’ transitions that a child with Additional Support Needs experiences in the Early Years:

  • From home into an Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) setting, which includes Childminders, Partner Centres and Highland Council settings.
  • Between ELC settings or split placements.
  • From an ELC setting into Primary 1.

We consider the transition from the child’s perspective, that of the family and all current and receiving staff. The aim is to prepare for the change to make the transition a positive experience for all with effective communication to ensure a seamless process.
