Aims:
Scotland’s suicide prevention action plan, ‘Every Life Matters’ sets out the ambition of developing learning resources on mental health improvement and suicide prevention for the wider public workforce. NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and Public Health Scotland (PHS) work in partnership to realise this action. This session will raise awareness of how we can all have a role in preventing suicide and to think about how best we can do that within the different roles that we have either within a workplace or within our communities.
Content:
By the end of the workshop you will be better able to:
- Talk openly about suicide
- Explain your role in suicide prevention
- Know the prevalence of suicide rates in Scotland
- Describe the risk associated with previous suicide attempt(s)
- Explain some of the reasons a person may harm themselves
- Understand the risk associated with previous self harm
- Describe what to do when someone is experiencing poor mental health or feeling suicidal.
Notes: It would be considered helpful for attendees to have previously attended Mental Health Awareness training session
