Developing play routines with loose parts
The pressure for some children in play with loose parts can be the open-ended nature of the play materials. Some children, particularly those with neurodevelopmental differences, may need support to engage with loose parts play. They may need an idea of things they can do with the materials, before they can feel confident enough to explore for themselves, begin to experiment, be creative and develop their imagination. Having a play routine can support this process.
